IN-STORE PRE-CUTTING OF LUMBER

If you purchase your lumber at Home Depot, they will perform straight cuts at no charge! This will eliminate the need for a circular saw, save some time and trouble, and will make the transport of the plywood components much easier! The only cutting remaining can be done with a scroll saw, jigsaw, or even by hand with a coping saw (although the latter is rather tedious and time-consuming).

Print the cutting instructions, Figure 1, and Figure 2 and take them along with the Bill of Materials to Home Depot. Obtain one of their rolling carts for carrying lumber right away. Ask one of their cutting technicians in the corner of the building to perform the cuts on the lumber in your cart.

It is likely that other hardware, lumber, and home improvement stores will provide free cutting service as well. Some may charge a small fee for each cut, which may be worthwhile to save time.

Many thanks to Arnold in Vancouver, B.C. for this information and for the cutting instruction sheet!
